Brikama United head coach Modou Lamin Nyassi has spoken about his club’s target, shape and hopes as the new season just started. His team drew the opening fixtures one-all with Wallidan.

However already considering his side as solid title contenders, Nyassi said his team has an ever-present competitive fighting spirit to win laurels.

“We always come to compete and if we are competing, we are going for the top prize. That’s the same approach we’re going to take this season too,” he said.

Preseason

Nyassi further explained he chose the West Coast Region for his preseason training because he is convinced the preseason tournament there will give enough challenge to help his boys get a hard training.

“The players have been without action for long due to the Covid so the West Coast preseason tourney which featured big teams and players from elsewhere in the first and second division teams. We are happy that we welcome this new year with a trophy and we are ready and so are the boys. I am sure we shall see the form the boys pick up during the preseason,” he said.

Transfers

The coach also talked about transfers and replacements at his team in this new season.

“Modou Manneh went to Real De Banjul and Modou Lamin Bojang is with the U20 preparing for the Afcon Under -20. So, we have called a defender from Greater Tomorrow who plays half-back. Dumbuya is back with us after short spell in Senegal and he is a fine replacement for Umtiti.

Also, Momodou Jadama has returned from Turkey and we also have a couple of young players from Greater Tomorrow who are rising stars. We also have Mola, a senior player who joined us from Wallidan. Generally, I am very much happy with the transfers, notably because we captured Modou Sowe, an extremely talented player from Fortune FC. So it is a new look Brikama United and I look up to the future,” he said.

Nyassi disclosed that the target set by the management of the club this year is not limited to winning the league alone. “They want to see us developing and giving young talents the opportunity for marketing. Notwithstanding, if we win the league, we have all the support to go to the CAF champions league. We are in high gear,” he said.
