Celebrations broke out across Minneapolis after former police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three charges he faced in the death of George Floyd.

Crowds gathered outside the courthouse as well as outside Cup Foods, where Chauvin knelt on Floyd for over nine minutes, referred to by demonstrators as “George Floyd Square.” As seen in videos posted on social media, the crowds cheered and cars in the streets honked their horns.

Chauvin was remanded into custody and his bail was revoked following the verdict: guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, guilty of third-degree murder and guilty of second-degree manslaughter.

Before the verdict was read, crowds began chanting, “Say his name! George Floyd.” Once the verdict was announced, cheers immediately broke out.

Many people in the crowd were seen becoming emotional as news of the verdict broke out, with many crying and hugging.
