Gambia’s Vice President Isatou Touray could have been infected during a meeting she recently attended, where one of the stakeholders of that meeting Hassan Jallow, later died of Coronavirus. Jallow was the Chief Executive Officer of Gambia’s Investment Agency GIEPA.
The VP, the late Hassan Jallow and other Ministers had a meeting with the Tourism Board. Jallow wasn’t tested at the time of that meeting. He was tested after his death, and reports have it that his test results came out positive. He was tested positive for Coronavirus.
Ministers from other Ministries, the Vice President Isatou Touray, including the Tourism officials were exposed to the late Hassan Jallow. It is not clear if the exposed officials have been tested for Coronavirus.
The State House on Wednesday announced that the Vice President Isatou Touray had been tested positive for Coronavirus. The press release went on to state that the President Adama Barrow has self-quarantined himself. There was no mention in the press release on President Barrow’s Coronavirus status, as to whether he has been tested or not.
The Gambia has so far recorded 326 cases of Coronavirus. 66 patients have recovered and 8 died.
The virus has devastated the health sector, as fifty percent of the nation’s doctors and other health workers are said to be out of work because of the pandemic. Some doctors and nurses have been infected with the Coronavirus.
About three or four health centers have been closed.
