GAMBIA: BREAKING NEWS: GAMBIAN MP, WHO ASSAULTED AN ANTI NARCOTIC OFFICER CHARGED TOGETHER WITH HER FATHER FOR ASSAULT CAUSING GRIEVOUS BODILY HARM!!

A Gambian nominated MP, who assaulted an anti narcotic officer, has been charged with four count criminal charges, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Yakumba Jaiteh was charged together with her father Yusupha Jaiteh. Among the charges include assault causing grievous bodily harm and obstructing law enforcement officers.

The MP was summoned for questioning on Thursday at the Serrekunda police station. This followed a drug raid at her Kololi home, where her brother Tijan Marcuary was arrested with two packs of marijuana (cannabis).

Tijan resisted arrest when he was stopped by the antinarcotic officers. He was aided by a hostile crowd, who attacked the arresting officers. The officers fired teargas to subdue the crowd.

MP Yakumba Jaiteh, and her Dad Yusupha Jaiteh joined the fray. The MP threw a stone to one of the arresting officers Ebrima Fadera and injured him on his head.

MP Jaiteh wasn’t immediately charged when her brother Tijan Macurary was arrested together with other accused persons. She visited the Drug Squad Head office with her family, where she had two hours meeting with the leadership of the anti narcotic agency. She returned home not charged.

It was on Thursday evening that she was formally charged. She has been released on bail. MP Jaiteh has been scheduled to report to the police on Friday.

The Serrekunda police station was stormed by UDP supporters when the MP was being processed.

If convicted, MP Jaiteh risked serving jail time. She could also loose here MP seat in Parliament.

The police spokesman superintendent Lamin Njie has asked to given time to react to the story later on Friday.
