The board of directors of the Gambia Tourism Board has been dissolved, according to the board Chairman.

Abdoulie Baks Touray confirmed to The Chronicle Thursday and stated there were no reasons advanced for the dissolution.

He said he has received a dissolution letter on Wednesday, 10th June, 2020.

“Yes, the board has been dissolved. I can’t give you any reason for now. I believe it is the pleasure of the President to dissolve the board.,” he tells The Chronicle.

“They (government) appoint you at their pleasure and dissolve it at their pleasure, and all that I can tell you is that they have dissolved the board,” Touray said.

The members of the board directors that has been dissolved include

Abdoulie Baks Touray as Chairman, Malleh Sallah, Kathrine Nyang and Babucarr Suwareh who all received their letters of dissolution, The Chronicle understands.

Malleh Sallah has also confirmed the dissolution of the board of directors, disclosing that no reasons have been advanced to explain the decision.

The Chronicle understands that the decision was made following the growing misunderstanding between the staff and the management of the authority on a proposed six months holiday with half salaries offered to the staff.

A source revealed to this medium that six staffers of the authority had also wrote a petition to the board of directors demanding an explanation on why the tourism and culture Minister Hamat Bah is receiving allowances from both the Ministry and GT Board, why 120 litres fuel coupon is given to the minister from the Board, and his medical travel allowances accorded to his family.

Both the director general of Gambia Tourism Board Abdoulie Hydara and Minister Hamat Bah were contacted for reaction but could not be reached for comments.
