Superintendent Almamy Manga, the integrity officer of the Gambia Football Federation has resigned. In his resignation letter which was leaked on social media and shared with The Standard Manga a senior police officer said “his decision is motivated in part, by some administrative failures” for which he “had to consult severally in the recent past, and for other personal reasons.”

Contacted by The Standard Mr Manga confirmed that he had taken his decision mainly because even after a full year since becoming integrity officer he has not got any TOR, and several efforts to get the GFF to come up with a policy or a committee with specially designed TORs did not yield anything.

Manga’s resignation came on the heels of the disqualification of The Gambia national Under-17 team from the Wafu Under-17 championship which is also the qualifiers for the Caf Under-17 tournaments.

The organisers claimed some Gambian players featured in the two matches were overaged. The GFF disputed that and has since vowed to appeal against the decision which they found to be unjustifiable, adding that all MRI tests were supervised by Caf and only those who passed the tests played.

However, last night an official of the GFF said Mr Manga’s resignation has nothing to do with the Under-17 saga.

Fifa introduced security and integrity committees in confederations and through them national associations to strengthen and further enhance existing measures to protect national and regional level football matches and competitions from match manipulation.

The objective and purpose also include fostering continuous improvement in the capacities of football security and integrity and facilitating the widest possible mutual assistance and good governance between the member associations of Fifa and relevant stakeholders.
