The Presidents of the United States and Germany Send Messages to President Barrow

State House, Banjul, 24th February 2021: His Excellency President Adama Barrow received congratulatory messages from the President of the United States of America, Joseph R. Biden, and Vice President, Kamala Harris, as The Gambia celebrates 56 years of nationhood.  

President Biden, in his message, noted that 2021 is an election year in The Gambia and an opportunity to strengthen structures necessary for promoting good governance, adding that Gambians and Americans share many values, such as democracy, human rights, and the desire for economic prosperity.  

The American President pledged to work in partnership with President Barrow to fight global challenges, such as the COVID -19, climate change and expand bilateral trade for the benefit of their two people. “America Stands with you and the people of the Gambia as we work to face global challenges together.” The message concluded.

On her part, Vice President Harris reiterated similar issues, adding that working together, the global challenges could be tackled to advance peace, prosperity, and justice for all.

In another message, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, congratulated the Gambian Leader on the 56thanniversary celebration of The Gambia’s independence.  He also wrote, “The upcoming Presidential elections will be an important benchmark for gauging the strength and viability of the process of democratisation and reconciliation.”  

President Steinmeier while extending best wishes to President Barrow, added that he was convinced that a solid foundation has been laid for holding peaceful and fair elections and assured him of Germany’s utmost support to the country.

Meanwhile, His Excellency President Barrow acknowledged receipt of best wishes and felicitations from the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al- Thani, and Secretary General

Organization of Islamic Cooperation, His Excellency Yousef A. Al Othaimeen of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on the occasion of the 56th Independence celebration.

The Gambian President reiterated his gratitude and appreciation to them for the support and solidarity in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and other global challenges.
