2 IN HEATED GNOC PRESIDENTIAL RACE

The race for president of The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is heating up as the elective congress nears.

The congress will be held on November 27 with all the positions in the board up for grab.

With the current president Dodou Joof not contesting, there is a heated race for his job.

According to nomination papers seen by The Standard two persons, current 1st vice president Beatrice Allen and Combined Security Forces president Lamin King Colley, are the only nominees for the top job.

Each of the candidates has also picked a line- up of colleagues they wish to be elected into their executive.

Beatrice Allen’s camp has lined up Lamin Kaba Bajo, the current 2nd vice president of the GNOC and president of the Gambia Football Federation as 1st VP while Lamin King Colley wants Volleyball president Ba Dodou Jallow to be his 1st VP.

Again, Beatrice Allen wants Ous Wadda as 2nd VP while King Colley wants Johnny Gomez of the cricket association as 2nd VP.

The choice of the Beatrice camp for secretary general is Yoro Njie while King Colley nominated Peter Prom as secretary general. There are 27 sports associations, 16 of which are direct Olympic sports with 2 votes while the rest, non-Olympic sport associations have only 1 vote.
