Barely a month before the continent’s flagship tournament kicks off in Cameroon next month, the Gambian head coach Tom Saintfiet has announced his final 28-man squad for the Afcon.
The Gambia Football Federation made the disclosure in a statement on its social media platform, Facebook on Tuesday, 21 December, 2021.
“The team will now leave for Qatar for a pre-tournament camp that begins next week. There will be two test matches with Algeria and Syria on 1st and 5th January respectively. Both matches will be played in Doha. The Scorpions will then fly to Cameroon on 7th January, 2022,” the statement indicated.
The forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) will be its 33rd edition. The senior Scorpions of The Gambia will, for the first-time, participate in the continental flagship tournament. The senior Scorpions are pitted against Mauritania, Mali and Tunisia in Group F.
