Professor Ousman Nyan has been appointed Chief Medical Director at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Freedom Newspaper can report. Nyan’s appointment came into effect on June 15th. He replaces Dr. Amadou Lamin Samateh, who was overseeing the post while doubling as Health Minister.

Nyan heads the School of Medicine at the University of The Gambia (UTG). He occupied the said position back in 2011. This was during dictator Jammeh’s rule.

Samateh has been overseeing the CMF position since his appointment as Health Minister. He retained the position when he was hired as a Cabinet Minister.

Meanwhile, Samateh remains as Health Minister. It is not clear if he is planning to leave the administration.

In another development, unconfirmed reports say another cabinet reshuffle is likely going to hit Banjul soon. Two top officials of the administration have already resigned from the government: Justice Minister Abubacarr Tambadou and Alasan Senghore, the former Coordinator of the National COVID-19 response program.
