TRRC: Perpetrators Reconcile with Their Victims

Four perpetrators who had earlier testified before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) has reconciled with their victims on Wednesday.

Army officer Major Abubacarr Bah who confessed to have tortured Omar Jallow alias OJ has reconciled with a veteran politician.

Soriba Conde who also has recently confessed to having made false testimonies against the then police Chief Ensa Badjie has also apologized and reconciled with his victim.

The Mile II ‘Chief Torturer’ Ebrima Jammeh and Malang Tamba have both reconciled with the prisoners Lamin Jah and Soriba Conde for torturing them.

Major Abubacarr Bah testified before the commission on December 2 2019 under 1994 human rights violation in which he disclosed committing bodily harm to Omar Jallow (OJ) and has since then solicited from the commission to facilitate his reconciliation with his victim.

Soriba Conde who also testified before the commission on institutional failure, unlawful detention, torture and inhuman treatment admits given false testimony on the trial of Ensa Badji alias ‘Jesus’ which led to the conviction of Badji and sentenced to six years in prison with hard labor.

Perpetrators reconciles with their victims through the TRRC

The TRRC was established by the government in 2017 to look into the atrocities of the 22 years of dictatorship under ex-president Yahya Jammeh’s rule. Amongst its objective is to also promote healing and reconciliation between and among victims.
