It’s Ablie Jallow again, the goal scorer in the Gambia’s opening game against Mauritania, who scored in stoppage time to secure three points against Tunisia on Thursday in Limbe Stadium, Cameroon.
Assisted by Musa Barrow with a cross from the left side of the pitch, Jallow’s left footed screamer from the centre of the box beat the Tunisian goalkeeper and went straight to the top right corner.
The Scorpions have conceded one goal and scored in each of the three group stage games courtesy of Jallow (2) and talisman Musa Barrow (1) who also assisted both of Jallow’s goals.
Tunisia dominated possession (75%) in the first half which ended goalless. Tunisia’s Jaziri missed from the spot in what was arguably a cheap penalty. Scorpions’ shot-stopper Baboucarr Gaye saved a penalty in the first half of the game. Gambia grew into the game in the second half with Musa Barrow hitting the crossbar for the second time in two matches.
It’s a dream debut for the footballers and country for making it through to the second round of the Afcon finals. The win means the Scorpions remain second in Group F on identical 7 points with Mali, who scored one goal more than Gambia.
The Gambia will now take on Guinea while Tunisia will face one of the tournament’s favourites, Nigeria in the round of 16.
