The Gambia Football Federation has announced that Caf has reduced the USD100,000 fine imposed on The Gambia over the Gabon national team incident last year.
Following the fine, The GFF lodged an appeal which has now been partially upheld with the reduction of the fine to USD50,000, half of which is in fact suspended for two years.
According to the GFF the Caf appeal board stated that in taking the decision to reduce the fine, it had put into consideration the fact that the Covid-19 Gambian health officials are an independent body to the Gambian Government. However, Caf also maintained that it remains the responsibility of the hosting national association to ensure the safety and fair treatment to the opposing team’s delegation.
“In light of the above, the GFF wishes to further announce that the Executive Committee will study the latest decision in consultation with its Legal team before its next line of action,” the GFF said in a statement issued yesterday.
