The domestic first division league enters the fourth week today with the league’s new revelation Falcons FC taking on Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) at the Late Ousman Saho field in Old Yundum.
Lamin Sanneh’s side, who are playing in their first ever campaign in the top flight, are unbeaten after three matches and are second behind Real de Banjul on goal difference. Both sides have seven points apiece.
Elsewhere, on Friday, early season strugglers Brikama United and Elite United would face off in the 8pm kick-off at the Independence Stadium. This late kick-off will see highflying Wallidan entertain Steve Biko at 10pm. However, the Blues will have to overcome last week’s disappointing draw with Brikama behind them to continue their strong start to the season while Biko would be buoyed by the 1-0 win over GAF.
Champions Fortune are struggling to find their stride this season and a disappointing eighth place is a paltry return for the investments made last season and during the break. However, despite accumulating just four points from their opening three matches, it is still too early to rule them out already. They will play newly promoted Team Rhino on Sunday at Bakau’s Independence Stadium at 6pm, offering the perfect opportunity to bounce back.
The biggest match of the week will see Real entertain Hawks in a Banjul derby at 8pm under the floodlights. Having survived the drop by the narrowest of margins, the Reds made a strong start to the current campaign, and just as leaders Real, they too have seven points.
Week four will come to an end on Monday when Waa Banjul takes on Samger at 8pm and Marimoo entertains Gambia Ports Authority in the 10pm kick-off.
