Denver Scorpions defeat Eritrea in The United Africa Premier Soccer league final
With almost all summer African soccer tournaments cancelled, Denver Scorpions represented the rest of Gambians as they edged out Eritrea in 6-5 penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the APS Stadium.
Denver beat Senegal 2-1 while Eritrea won over Caribbean to set up Sunday’s final. Oye found the back of the net to register his ninth goal of the tournament.
This was Denver’s first trophy and skipper Muhammed Jallow was elated with it.
“it’s really a good feeling, we never expected to be champions. We were the underdogs but we fought hard. We are all excited and I’m really proud of the lads”. Captain Jallow stressed
Ali Bai Jallow, the president of Denver Scorpions stated that their aim was to annex the trophy and also hone talents.
“We will build from here, play tournaments and win trophies. We want to take it big , develop younger players and give them a platform.
“We had a very good coach, players and officials who were very dedicated. We always exploited the weakness of our opponents. We have worked a lot behind the scenes and that’s what we executed.” Bai added.
