A prominent Gambian lawyer has been granted police bail after been accused of rape, Freedom Newspaper can report. Hammey Krubally, a lands lawyer, and a native of Basse, was taken into custody on Friday. He has been accused of raping an eighteen-year-old (18) girl. The alleged affair between Krubally and the girl started when the girl was sixteen-year-old, (16) according to the allegations before the police.
Krubally has been charged with defilement (rape). He has been accused of defiling the young girl when she was at the age of 16.
Lawyer Krubally has been scheduled to report to the police headquarters child’s welfare unit for further action. A trusted police insider has confirmed the story, when contacted.
“Yes, it is true that one Mr. Hammey Krubally a lands lawyer and native of Basse Koba-Kunda, resident of Banjul, was briefly detained at the Banjul police station. He was released on bail today and is supposed to report to the HQS at the child Welfare Unit for further police action,” the insider told us.
New details have emerged on Lawyer Hammey Krubally’s alleged rape case. Krubally’s alleged rape victim accuser is a Sierra Leonean national, who has been living in The Gambia for many years. She told the police that she was impregnated by Krubally. Her first pregnancy was aborted. She claimed that she was given some money by the accused person to abort her first pregnancy.
She is currently pregnant.
Police have referred the matter to the hospital for medical examination. They have also conducted their own internal tests on the matter.
Krubally has been scheduled to report to the police on Monday.
Mr. Krubally could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press late Saturday evening.
