While the jubilant United States have elected a new President Joe Biden, in The Gambia, President Adama Barrow’s newly formed NPP political party has swept the byelection polls in Niamina West and Kerrjarga respectively. The NPP flagbearer Birom Sowe has outperformed his GDC opponent Yerro Jallow. Sowe captured 1,718 of the total vote cast, while Yero Jallow had 805 votes. Sowe has been declared as the legitimate winner of the Niamina West constituency byelections. He is the NPP’s first elected Parliamentarian in Barrow’s transitional government.
The NPP was formed last year. The party is about to mark its one-year anniversary. It is yet to be formally launched.
Meanwhile, the NPP has also won the Kerrjarga ward Councilor byelection.
NPP: 2327
UDP: 219
APRC: 193
GDC: 642
Looking at the Kerrjarga results, the so called mighty UDP had under performed in that ward. The new NPP party had performed better than the old parties.
