Gambia’s National Tax Office, The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) Head Office in Banjul, has been burglarized by unknown thieves, Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. The thieves made away with two laptop computers and other valuables. Reports also have it that the thieves allegedly tampered with a safe in that office. The safe has been stolen. The incident happened this past Thursday.
The office of the Deputy Commissioner General Essa Jallow and another office were broken into by the thieves. A four inches knife and blood stains were found at the scene.
“The (Safe)in the office of DGC Jallow has been taken away during the theft! Including, Desktop, Television and the receiver,” We have been reliably informed.
The GRA Head Office is located at Wellington street Banjul. It is right behind the police Headquarters on ECOWAS Avenue. It is less than one hundred meters from the police Headquarters.
The GRA office is guarded by security officers, some of whom are former service men. The break-in happened on Thursday night.
Sadly, some of the top police insiders we contacted said they were not aware of the incident. They promised to investigate and get back to us.
Our competent and unimpeachable sources have reported that the GRA break-in incident was indeed reported to the police. Sources said the matter was under investigations.
Few Gambia are aware of the incident. It is not clear if the incident is being treated as “need to know basis” but a GRA insider have confirmed the incident to Freedom Newspaper.
“The Deputy DG’s office was burglarized. We came to work on Thursday only to be greeted with such an incident. Everyone here was devastated,” the insider remarked.
The police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie was contacted for comment and this is what he had to say: “Please let me check with the crime Department.”
“The GRA management are treating the incident on the down low. They do not want the public to be aware of what happened,” said a source in the heart of the Barrow administration.
