Gambia records 3 new deaths, 155 new cases

This has taken the total number of covid-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 1,090 with 19 deaths.

In the daily covid-19 update on Friday, the Health Ministry said that the total number of covid-19 deaths recorded represents a crude case-fatality ratio of 1.7%.

“At least 26% of the new confirmed cases are healthcare workers mainly from Pakala, BMCHH and EFSTH. Unlike the previous sets of reported cases (which were predominantly asymptomatic),” the ministry says.

According to the health officials, over 60 percent of the new cases are symptomatic with many representing loss of taste or smell and intermittent coughing.

“Fifteen volunteers of the Gambia Red Cross burial team benefitted from mental health and psychosocial support first aid. Sixteen new recoveries recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 146 (13.4% of confirmed cases).”

At least 360 new laboratory test results received from MRCG and NPHL. Of these, 184 tested negative (both new and repeats), 156 returned positive (1 repeat and 155 new) and 20 tested inconclusive or probable for covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Senegalese Ministry of Health yesterday reported 172 positive cases of covid-19, bringing the total number of cases to 11,175; 7,352 recoveries, 232 deaths and 3,590 under treatment.

Africa has registered 874,036 cases and 18,498 deaths.

In the World, 19,806,285 cases have been recorded with 729,591 deaths.
