Gambia records highest single day covid-19 with 128 confirmed cases

In the daily covid-19 update, the Ministry of Health said that about 30% of the newly confirmed cases are health workers mainly from MRC, Pakala and Sharab clinics.

“Two new deaths recorded, bringing to 16 the total number of documented covid-19 related deaths in the country – a crude case-fatality ratio of 2.0%. Samples from both deceased cases were collected posthumously,” health officials say.

According to the ministry’s update, 36 new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 115. It added that 324 new laboratory test results were received (177 from MRCG and 147 from NPHL)

“Of these, 176 tested negative (both new and repeats), 136 returned positive (8 repeats and 128 new) and 31 tested inconclusive or probable for COVID-19. Whereas 81 persons were newly taken into quarantine, 90 were discharged.”

The country currently has 520 people in quarantine, 662 active cases, 74 probable cases and a crude case-fatality ratio of 2.0%.

In a related development, the Senegalese Health Ministry yesterday registered 106 positive cases of covid-19, bringing total number of infections to 10,538; 6,988 recoveries with 218 deaths.
