Real spits fire at Tallinding UTD
Fortune tests Waa Banjul

By Muhammed Lamin Drammeh

The race for the 2020-21 national football title starts this afternoon, ten months after the inconclusive end to the previous season by the Covid-19 pandemic which is still raging.

For the first time, the first division league games will be played beyond Brikama, because Real de Banjul is preparing to host Tallinding United at their plush academy complex at Basori today. Coach Ebou Jarra’s team who controversially rejected a GFF donated championship honour without the crown last season, will like to pick from where they left last season.  But Tallinding Utd is known to be a stubborn side who would measure up for a possible flying start when they face the whites on strange land Basouri this afternoon.

At the Independence stadium in Bakau, Waa Banjul will take on Petroleum boys, Fortune FC. The two had similar impressive goal harvesting statistics last season having gone for several games without conceding a goal.

Fortune FC, under coach Jane Joof have been spraying petrol over many big boys in the league since their promotion into the top flight but Waa Banjul is in a class of their own when it comes to defence and so a nail-biting encounter is expected in Bakau this afternoon.

Tomorrow,Saturday,  Elite  United, an offspring of Real, will meet Mighty Hawks, which is already an elite team in the league. Again, like their big brothers, Elite UTD will take Hawks to Basori for this encounter.  Hawks would like to welcome their former midfielder back in the game, Lamin  Charty well known to Elite United for his mesmerizing goals. But can Ansu Fatty’s Hawks beat these attention seekers calling themselves Elite United?.

Meanwhile, Marimoo FC of Manjai will face Armed Forces at the NTTC in Yundum.  The Soldiers took the  donated honour of the GFF league championship with the crown last season but would certainly gun for one of their own, won on the pitch starting with this clash against Marimoo, who on their good day, can shock any team in the league.

On Sunday, Gamtel meets BK Millan at the NTTC. Also on Sunday, at Basori,  Brikama United takes on Wallidan in what is already dubbed the game of the week.

On the same day, GPA will take on Banjul United at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

All matches are expected to kick off at 4pm.
