KM Mayor Gets Coronavirus, Health Minister Quarantined

Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has confirmed on Tuesday that Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda has been tested positive for COVID 19 virus. The Health ministry has also informed the public that the minister has been quarantined to ascertain his condition.

“The General public is hereby informed that the Lord Mayor tested positive for Covid19 Virus. He is in good spirits and has since been placed under isolation and is well on his way to recovery,” a statement from Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) posted on its official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the senior information officer of the government Bubacarr Sankanu said Dr Amadou Samateh has checked into quarantine on Tuesday following three of his colleague ministers were confirmed positive a few days ago.

“The preliminary results of his first COVID 19 tests are inconclusive. While awaiting additional tests, Dr Samateh, who is in high spirits will continue to lead the operations of the health ministry from the quarantine.”

The Gambian president Adama Barrow was however declared negative of the virus on Tuesday after he was placed under self-isolation last week.

The country has so registered a surging figure of 671 confirmed cases with 13 deaths so far.
