New chief in Lower Nuimi appointed

George Sonko replaces recently retired chief, Fabakary Nana Sonko.

George Sonko had previously served in this capacity after his election victory in the 1980s. As chief of Lower Nuimi, George held the chieftaincy for over a decade until the July, 22nd, 1994 coup when former President Yaya Jammeh relieved him of his duties.

Chief George Sonko re assumes this role with a wealth of experience and The Gambia government envisages a very smooth transition for the new chief and an amicable working relationship with his constituents.
