The second week of the new season produced neither shocks nor thrillers, but the early strong starting of new comers Falcons has got some pundits to watch the  league closer for a possible run-away leaders and eventual title winning by debutants.

Fortune FC of Farato did that last season in spectacular fashion. Falcons won their debut match in the top flight last week beating Steve Biko and on Friday they drew Mighty Hawks 1-1 and now sit on a crowded table of joint leaders with the second-best goal difference behind Real de Banjul. And talking about Fortune FC, the defending champions have picked only a single point from a possible six, when Steve Biko held them to a nil – nil draw on Friday after the heavy 4-1 loss to Real.   That shaky start to a title defense is gradually putting Coach Jane Joof under pressure. Unless Fortune FC can right away now prove that last season’s title was no fluke by measuring up to the big teams in the league, the team risks losing its respected status as a force in Gambian football.

Elsewhere in the league, Waa Banjul beat Gamtel 1-0 as Elite United continue its impressive performance from last year to beat Banjul United 2-1. Brikama United drew nil- nil against Samger as GAF beat GPA -2-0. Another new comer Team Rhino held veterans Wallidan FC to a goalless draw, questioning the fitness of the Blue Boys just back from the Gulf.

Real’s 1-1 draw against Marimoo was enough to send them  top of the league, but only just. They lead by a narrow goal difference.
