The decision was made following the review and amendment of the Essential Commodities Emergency Power Regulation 2020.

The decision, the ministry said, was based on the fact that businesses are now normalizing and most countries where The Gambia sources her imports have now relaxed their trade-related covid-19 restrictive measures.

The objective is to support the economic recovery processes from the effect of the pandemic, the ministry also said.

The trade ministry encouraged the business community to resume export and re-export of essential commodities.

According to the ministry it will continue to monitor the development in both the international and domestic market and take appropriate actions when necessary to ensure the availability and affordability of essential food commodities.

The ministry strongly advised the business community to follow Ministry of Health and WHO covid-19 guidelines while undertaking export and re-export trade in order to contain the spread of the disease.
