Top Gambian football club Wallidan FC is in Saudi Arabia for a training camp, the club announced over the weekend. The most successful club in the country, Wallidan will spend two weeks in the kingdom to prepare for the coming league season. The 40-man delegation is headed by the club president Mr Alieu Ceesay. The Gambia Football Federation secretary general Lamin Jassey is on the trip to represent the national football governing body.
During the training the club will play a series of test matches with various teams. The trip has been hailed as a positive development and a potential gate opener for Gambian football talents to that apart of the world.
Wallidan which still holds the record number of titles in Gambian football was a powerhouse from the 1960s to the 1980s. Its new generation of leaders have set a target to return the club to its past glory through quality professional and technical administration.
