The objective of the meeting is to eliminate non-tariff barriers and allow free movement of goods and people within the sub region.

It could be recalled that The Gambia and other countries including Mali have signed all ECOWAS Protocols for the free movement of goods and service but yet there are hindrances to trade facilitation.

Based on the frequent and unnecessary transit barriers, the Malian delegation decided to visit The Gambia to address this matter.

The delegation first visited The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) where the team had interactive meetings with the top management at the GRA Conference Hall.

The discussion centred on trade and transit of petroleum and general goods between the two countries. The Malian delegation is also seeking assistance from the GRA and Gam-Petroleum to mark (colour) the petroleum bound for Mali. They also discussed the modalities on having Memorandum of Understanding between the Malian Customs Administration and the Gambia Revenue Authority among a host of other pertinent issues.

The team also visited the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs where they met Minister Mambury Njie. They also visited Foreign Affairs Ministry, where they had discussions with Dr. Mamadou Tangara on important matters.
