GAP CALLS FOR THE NATION’S SECURITY AMID WIDESPREAD FEAR AMONGST THE PEOPLE

The Gambia Action Party is concerned about the security threats surrounding the nation as our citizens continued to die on account of the government’s negligence towards the Security Sector Reform (SSR) and misplaced priority to safeguard the people. As a result, when a nation’s security measures collapsed, crimes and destruction as well as deaths must be an expectant outcome.

We learned the Sanyang incident with sadness and call on the government to ensure the lives and properties of our people are safe and secured without power tussle to avoid recurrence. We call on the youth to withstrain themselves and pursue justice without further escalation of ravishment and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

We would like to remind the government of the Gambia to revisit the so-called security agreement with Senegal which led the ordinary citizens to battle for survival in exchange of President Barrow accorded with sophisticated security guidance. On that score, I take liberty to the Gambian people that six vibrant youth lost their lives because of security deficiency in the past thirty four days and eight precious souls departed from 2017 to date due to Senegalese Security aggression in The Gambia, a record that has gone into the darkest pages of our history.

Our bilateral strategy with Senegal must be based on economic growth and revival but not other way round. GAP has gratitude beyond words and would work with the Senegalese government on mutual benefits. We urge everyone to remain law abiding and ensure their democratic rights are exercised in December without violence or destruction to people’s properties.

Secretary General & Party Leader of GAP,
Hon Musa Ousainou Yali Batchilly.
