Police in The Gambia have in the morning rearrested members  of ‘3 Years Jotna’, a protest group standing trail on charges relative to their January 2020 protest against President Barrow choosing to serve the constitutional five-year mandate, instead of the 3 years campaign promise.

All what happened is, we came to the court in the morning. The state brought in a file, saying they are withdrawing the case. So, they withdrew the case from court. When they withdrew the case, we stepped out. After, we were arrested by the [Police] Criminal Department. Right now, we are at the Criminal Department as I’m speaking with you,” Abdou Njie, Chairman of the group confirmed to Kerr Fatou., this development.

Until the withdrawal of the case by the state this morning, and before their rearrest by the police, Abdoulie Njie, Ebrima Kitim Jarju, Sheriffo Sonko, Hagi Suwareh , Fanta Mballow, Karim Touray, Yankuba Darboe and Muctarr Ceesay were charged with three counts of unlawful assembly, rioting after proclamation, and rioters demolishing structures as a result of their protest in January 2020 against President Barrow choosing to serve a five year term as stated in the 1997 Constitution instead of the Coalition 2016 campaign promise that its candidate [Barrow], if elected, will only lead a 3-year government and resign.
