The suspended Kanifing Municipal Council CEO and colleagues were denied access to the Council grounds, after reporting to work.

Sainabou Matin Sonko and colleagues reported to work in the morning after the Minister of Local Government and Lands on Tuesday called on the Council to rescind its recommendation against them.

“We are denied entry unfortunately as you are witnessing based on the fact that the security at the gate have been given instructions not to allow us entry, if we report to work, for whatever reason, we don’t know,” she told Star TV.

The Minister for Local Government and Lands in a letter on Monday urged the Kanifing Municipal Council to rescind its recommendation for the termination of the services of its CEO and Finance Director, Dr Alieu Keita, following their alleged involvement in the D12 million scandal.

Minister Drammeh informed Mayor Bensouda that the Council has been placed under inspection effective 3rd August 2021.

The Minister added that the decision to place the council under inspection is because a petition was sent to his ministry by the CEO and other officials of the council, alleging fraud against the (former) Deputy Mayor and cover up of the said fraud.

He continued that the accused (CEO Sainabou Matin and Director of Finance Dr Alieu Keita) also denied any wrongdoing in the said petition.
